A 5-step tutorial for creating a wedding mood board

This whole process will help you define your style, awaken your creativity, and give you clear direction concerning your wedding theme. After you’ve completed all the steps, the mood board will be a valuable tool in sharing your vision with your wedding vendors.

1.Sharing is caring

Don’t let your partner feel neglected in the planning process. Discuss your thoughts, wishes, wedding colors, personalized design ideas; you never know what you both can come up with! Think about dates that mean to you both, destinations, which season you both love, which is an absolute “No no” regarding certain aspects, etc.

3.Observe your unique style

If you aren’t sure what your style actually is, sit down, close your eyes, and write the first descriptive words that come to your mind. Words like romantic, ethereal, whimsical, opulent, elegant, luxury, minimal; can give you a starting clue and direction in the creation of your wedding mood board. Be observant of what you like, do you like certain types of flowers? Clothing style? Interior and exterior design? Are you drawn to the freshness of nature or your spirit lingers in refined elegance?

3.Find inspiration on Pinterest

Secondly thorough and search for relevant keywords. When you find the things that you like, it is handy to sort them on separate boards in order to navigate more easily. For example, have a separate board for florals, for decor, for venues, for a wedding theme in general, and so on. When you fill all your boards with inspirational photos, it is time to choose those that you feel that resonate with you and collect up to 15 of them into one Pinterest board.

5.Draw colors from the chosen photos

While this might sound easy, not always our favorite colors are on the list, therefore it is essential to explore and pull out up to 5 wedding colors from that one board on which you previously put your best photos. Organize them into a palette and think about which colors would you like to be dominant and which to be used for accenting.

6.Weave the inspiration gathered into one wedding mood board

The easiest way to do this is by using an app or a program. Highly recommend Canva because it is free and easy to use. You just log in, choose a new mood board template, and start filling it with your chosen photos. When you are sure that the board reflects your styling aesthetic and visual expression; it is time to print it. Placing your creative expression somewhere that you will see it at all times is of crucial importance. Catching a glimpse of your wedding mood board will keep you on the right path, and sharing it virtually or printed with your wedding planner and vendors will result in bringing your imagination to life.
