Wedding Films from Lake Como

Below are three films from our work at Lake Como — at Villa Pizzo, Villa Balbiano, and Villa Bonomi. Each one is shaped by the light of the lake, the character of the venue, and the deeply personal story of the couple at the centre of it.

Why Lake Como Is So Special to Film

Lake Como has been drawing artists, writers, and filmmakers for centuries — and when you film here, you understand immediately why. The combination of elements that this location offers is genuinely unlike anywhere else in the world.

  • The light. The quality of light on Lake Como — particularly in late afternoon and early evening — is extraordinary. The alpine mountains to the north create a directional light that falls across the water and the pale stone villas with a warmth and depth that flatters everything within it. The reflections from the lake add an additional layer of beauty that is impossible to replicate artificially.
  • The water. The cerulean blue of the lake itself provides a backdrop and a foreground simultaneously — in aerial shots, in portrait sequences, and in the ceremony footage where the water stretches behind the couple as far as the eye can see.
  • The villas. The historic villas of Lake Como — Villa Pizzo, Villa Balbiano, Villa Bonomi and others — are architectural masterpieces set directly on the water’s edge. Each one has its own character, its own gardens, and its own particular relationship with the light of the lake.
  • The boats. Lake Como weddings almost always include boat transfers between venues, welcome dinners on the water, and farewell excursions across the lake. These sequences — guests on a wooden launch, the mountains behind them, the light on the water — are some of the most treasured footage we make anywhere in Italy.
  • The atmosphere. The pace of life on Lake Como — slower, more present, more sensory — settles over a wedding weekend naturally. Guests arrive and immediately relax into the beauty of where they are. The footage that results from that collective ease is always warm, genuine, and deeply human.

Villa Bonomi — Intimate Elegance with Panoramic Views

Real Weddings Filmed on Lake Como

Here are some of the Lake Como weddings we have had the privilege of filming — each one shaped by the light, the water, and the extraordinary atmosphere of this iconic destination.

Planning a Destination Wedding on Lake Como

After filming multiple weddings at Lake Como across all seasons, here is our honest advice for couples planning a wedding here:

  1. Book 18 months ahead minimum. The best Lake Como venues and the best suppliers fill their calendars quickly for the May–September season. If you have a dream villa in mind, enquire as soon as your date is set.
  2. Plan portraits for 5:00–7:00pm. The light on Lake Como in late afternoon — as the sun drops behind the mountains to the west and the warm reflected light fills the lake — is extraordinary. This is the window that defines a Lake Como wedding film.
  3. Build boat transfers into your programme. Arrivals and departures by boat across the lake are among the most treasured sequences in every film we make here. Brief your planner to build boat moments into the weekend from the beginning — not as an afterthought.
  4. Plan a multi-day celebration. The most memorable Lake Como weddings span two or three days — a welcome dinner on the lake, the wedding day itself, and a farewell boat trip or brunch the following morning. The footage from day three is consistently the most warm and emotionally authentic of the whole weekend.
  5. Confirm the drone policy early. Lake Como has restricted airspace in some areas. Always confirm with your venue and the relevant Italian aviation authority well in advance if aerial footage is important to you.
  6. Travel tip: Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) is the most convenient international airport for Lake Como — approximately 1 hour by car or transfer. Milan Linate (LIN) is slightly closer at approximately 45 minutes.

FAQ — Lake Como Wedding Videography

Have you filmed weddings on Lake Como?

Yes — we have filmed multiple weddings at Lake Como across several of its most prestigious venues, including Villa Pizzo, Villa Balbiano, and Villa Bonomi. We know the lake intimately — the quality of light at every hour, the best positions for ceremony and portrait coverage, the drone paths across the water, and the natural rhythm of how a multi-day Lake Como wedding weekend unfolds.

Which Lake Como venue is best for a destination wedding?

It depends on what you are looking for. Villa Pizzo is our favourite for pure lakeside beauty and warmth of atmosphere — it is a fairytale setting that never feels cold or formal. Villa Balbiano is for couples who want grand architecture and a high-end editorial feel. Villa Bonomi is the most intimate of the three — elevated views, refined atmosphere, and a scale that suits smaller, more personal celebrations perfectly.

What is the best time of year for a Lake Como wedding?

Late May, June and September are our favourite months for filming on Lake Como. The light is extraordinary, the weather is reliably warm, and the lake is at its most beautiful before and after the peak summer crowds. July and August are also popular but can be very hot — plan outdoor ceremonies for early morning or after 5pm if you marry in peak summer.

Do you use drones on Lake Como?

Yes — where permitted. Lake Como has restricted airspace in some areas and drone authorisation must be confirmed well in advance with the venue and relevant Italian aviation authorities. The aerial sequences from the lake — the villas, the mountains, the cerulean water — are consistently some of the most beautiful footage we make anywhere in Italy. Speak to us early in the planning process if aerial footage is important to you.

How far in advance should we book?

As early as possible — ideally 12–18 months before your date. Lake Como is one of the most sought-after destination wedding locations in the world and the best venues and suppliers fill their calendars very quickly for the May–September season.

How do guests get to Lake Como from the UK?

Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) is the most convenient international airport — approximately 1 hour by car or transfer from most Lake Como venues. There are multiple daily direct flights from London. Milan Linate (LIN) is approximately 45 minutes and also well-served from London. Alternatively, the Trenitalia high-speed rail connects Milan to Como in approximately 40 minutes.
