Provence is one of the most beautiful wedding destinations in the world — lavender fields, golden light, ancient châteaux, and a pace of life that makes every moment feel worth preserving. At HD Moments, we specialise in wedding videography in Provence, creating timeless, emotional films for couples planning luxury celebrations in the South of France — films you will return to again and again for the rest of your lives.

We film with a calm, warm, unobtrusive approach — preserving the atmosphere, the vows, the laughter, and the small details that make your Provence wedding uniquely yours. If you are planning a destination wedding in Provence and looking for a videographer who knows this region intimately, this guide is written from direct, first-hand experience of filming here across multiple seasons and locations.

Provence Wedding Films

Every Provence wedding we film has its own light, its own atmosphere, its own story. Below are three films from our work across the region — each one a deeply personal record of a couple’s most important day.

Why Couples Choose Provence for a Destination Wedding

Provence offers something no other wedding destination can fully replicate — a combination of extraordinary natural beauty, world-class venues, exceptional food and wine, and a quality of light that makes every frame feel like it belongs in a painting. Here is what we observe again and again from couples who choose this region:

  • The light. The golden hour in Provence is unlike anywhere else in Europe. From late April through October, the late afternoon sun bathes limestone walls and lavender fields in a warm amber glow that is simply breathtaking — and impossible to replicate artificially.
  • The venues. From intimate mas farmhouses to grand 18th-century châteaux, Provence offers a spectrum of settings that can accommodate weddings of 20 or 200 guests with equal elegance and warmth.
  • The multi-day format. Provence weddings almost always span two or three days — which produces richer, more varied films and allows guests to fully inhabit the experience of the South of France.
  • The atmosphere. The pace of life in Provence — slower, more sensory, more present — translates directly into footage that feels warm and deeply human. Guests are relaxed, couples are glowing, and the whole day unfolds with a natural, unhurried quality that is impossible to manufacture.

How to Plan a Provence Wedding — From Our Experience on the Ground

After years of filming weddings across Provence, here is what we have learned about planning a destination wedding in this region:

  1. Define your style first. Elegant and grand (Château de Tourreau), soft and romantic (Château de Robernier), or intimate and rustic (Le Mas de Poiriers)? Your venue choice flows from your vision, not the other way around.
  2. Book early — ideally 18 months ahead. The best venues and the best suppliers in Provence are heavily booked from May through September. If you have a dream venue in mind, enquire as soon as your date is set.
  3. Choose a planner with genuine Provence experience. The logistics of a multi-day destination wedding require someone who knows the local landscape. We have worked alongside Matthew Oliver Weddings at multiple venues here and the difference is immediately apparent.
  4. Consider the three-day format. A welcome dinner on day one, wedding day on day two, and a farewell pool day on day three produces a completely different experience — for guests and on film — than a single-day event. The most moving footage we have ever captured in Provence has come from day three.
  5. Plan transfers carefully. Many Provence venues are rural. The nearest TGV is typically 30–45 minutes from most estates. Build transfer time into your welcome information and recommend guests arrive the evening before.
  6. Tell your videographer your portrait window early. The light in Provence shifts dramatically between midday and late afternoon. Knowing your portrait window — ideally 4:30–6:00pm — allows us to plan for the shots that define a Provence wedding film.
  7. Embrace the local produce and atmosphere. Provence catering — when done well — is part of the story. Long tables, local wines, market produce, and unhurried dining are beautiful in themselves and translate directly into footage that feels warm, generous, and deeply personal.

Provence Venues We Know and Love

We have filmed at several exceptional estates across Provence. Below are the venues we return to most often — each with a distinctive character and atmosphere that shapes every film we make there.

Venues We Film at Regularly

  • Château de Tourreau — dramatic 18th-century estate near Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Private chapel, fountain courtyard, vineyard views, pool. Up to 150 guests. Our most-filmed Provence venue.
  • Château de Robernier — golden gardens, lavender terraces, and timeless Provençal warmth in the Var department.
  • Le Mas de Poiriers — an intimate countryside estate…

Real Weddings Filmed in Provence

Every Provence wedding we film is different — shaped by the venue, the season, the couple, and the particular quality of light on the day. Here are some of the celebrations we have had the privilege of capturing in the South of France.

The Light — Why Provence Films So Beautifully

There is a reason artists and filmmakers have been drawn to Provence for over a century. The quality of light here — particularly from late afternoon onwards — is unlike anywhere else in Europe. The angle of the sun, the reflective quality of the limestone and terracotta, and the clarity of the air combine to produce a warmth and depth that stays with you long after the day is over.

From a filming perspective, this means that late afternoon and early evening in Provence are the most precious hours of a wedding day. We always work with couples to ensure the portrait session and key moments — first dance, outdoor toasts, vineyard walks — fall within this golden window. The difference between midday footage and 5pm footage at a Provence château is significant, and it is one of the most important conversations we have during planning.

The landscape itself adds another layer of beauty. Vineyard rows, lavender fields, ancient stone walls, and distant hilltop villages provide natural depth in every wide shot. A drone over a Provence estate at golden hour produces footage that speaks for itself — and that you will want to watch again and again.

Essential Questions to Ask Before Booking Your Provence Venue

After multiple wedding weekends across the region, these are the questions we recommend every couple asks before committing to a Provence venue:

  • Is there a covered space in case of rain? Even in summer, Provence can experience sudden storms. A marquee or indoor backup is essential.
  • Is the venue accessible for guests travelling from abroad? Check proximity to Avignon TGV, Marseille airport, and local taxi and shuttle availability.
  • Are catering services available on-site? Some estates require you to bring in an approved external caterer — factor this into your budget and planning timeline.
  • Are there enough guesthouses or hotels nearby? For a multi-day celebration, on-site or adjacent accommodation significantly improves the guest experience.
  • Will guests need transport between events? Many Provence venues are remote — a shuttle plan is usually necessary.
  • Are you free to choose your own videographer and suppliers? Some venues have preferred supplier lists. Ensure your chosen team is not excluded before you sign anything.
  • What is the drone policy? Most Provence estates are in open countryside with no restrictions, but always confirm with the venue and check local airspace regulations.

FAQ — Provence Wedding Videography

Do you travel to Provence for weddings?

Yes — Provence is one of our most-filmed destinations. We travel from London and cover destination weddings across Provence, the South of France, and Europe. Travel costs are included in our destination wedding packages.

What is the best time of year for a Provence wedding film?

May through September offers the most reliable weather and the most beautiful light. Late June to early August coincides with lavender season — the iconic purple fields add an unmistakable Provençal warmth to portraits and drone footage. September is our personal favourite for light quality — warm, golden, and perfectly angled for late afternoon filming.

Do you film three-day destination weddings in Provence?

Yes — multi-day destination weddings are a specialism of ours. We offer full coverage across all three days: welcome dinner, wedding day, and farewell pool day or brunch. Three-day coverage produces significantly richer, more personal films — with genuine, unguarded moments that single-day events simply cannot produce.

Do you use drones in Provence?

Yes — the open countryside of Provence is ideal for drone work. Most estates we film at have no restricted airspace, and aerial sequences are a standard part of our Provence wedding films. The footage from vineyard and château estates at golden hour is consistently some of the most beautiful we produce anywhere in Europe.

How far in advance should we book a Provence wedding videographer?

As early as possible — ideally 12–18 months before your date. The summer season in Provence books quickly, and the best videographers fill their calendars well in advance. We recommend enquiring as soon as your venue and date are confirmed.

Which Provence venues do you film at most often?

Château de Tourreau and Château de Robernier are our two most-filmed venues in Provence. We also film regularly at Le Mas de Poiriers and have experience across a wide range of estates throughout the Vaucluse, Var, and Bouches-du-Rhône departments.
