Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild sits at the tip of the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula — a narrow strip of land between Nice and Monaco that looks out over two bays simultaneously. The villa was built in the early 20th century for the Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild and is now a historic monument that opens exclusively for private events.

The Morning — Preparations with a View of the Mediterranean

Francesca’s morning preparations took place within the villa — surrounded by the soft light that filters through the arched loggias and reflects off the pale pink walls. There is a quality to the morning light at Villa Ephrussi that is unlike anything we encounter in Provence or the Loire Valley — Mediterranean clear, warm, and deeply flattering in a way that requires nothing additional from us as a filming team.

Daniel and his groomsmen did something we had not filmed before and have not forgotten since — they got ready on a private boat off the peninsula, with the villa visible on the clifftop behind them and the Côte d’Azur stretching in every direction. The footage from that morning sequence is among the most distinctive we have made anywhere in France.

By the time both Francesca and Daniel arrived at the villa’s gardens for the ceremony, the atmosphere was already charged with anticipation — every guest fully present, fully moved by where they were and what was about to happen.

Francesca wore a gown by Galia Lahav — one of the world’s most respected bridal designers, known for sculptural, couture-level silhouettes that film beautifully in natural light. The gown was a perfect match for the soft French Riviera atmosphere — elegant, contemporary, and entirely in keeping with the grandeur of the villa without competing with it.

Daniel wore a tailored Tom Ford suit — impeccably cut and precisely right for the setting. The combination of Francesca’s gown and Daniel’s suit gave the film a visual consistency and elegance that carries through every frame.

The florals by Wayne Riley were sophisticated, romantic, and perfectly calibrated to the villa’s palette — soft whites, creams, and greens that felt as though they had grown directly from the gardens surrounding them. Wayne’s arrangements filled the reception spaces with texture and warmth without ever overwhelming the natural beauty of the setting.

The Evening — Fine Dining, Dancing & Fireworks Above the Mediterranean

As the sun dropped lower over the western bay, the villa’s terraces were transformed for dinner. Long tables, candlelight, the sound of the sea below — and above it all, the particular quality of a Riviera evening that makes every conversation feel more animated and every laugh more genuine.

The speeches were heartfelt and full of laughter. We use radio microphones on every speaker as standard — ensuring every word is captured clearly regardless of where guests are positioned in the space. The reactions around the table — Francesca and Daniel’s faces, the guests leaning in, the moments of quiet emotion — are often the footage couples return to most in the years after their wedding.

The dancing that followed was electric — the kind of uninhibited celebration that only happens when the right people are together in an extraordinary place. And then, as the evening reached its peak, fireworks illuminated the night sky above the Mediterranean — the Côte d’Azur spreading below in all directions, and Francesca and Daniel at the centre of it, surrounded by everyone they love.

It was, without question, one of the most beautiful evenings we have ever filmed.
